Sheldon Dick - October, 1938 visit to the Coal Region
Sheldon Dick was a photographer with the Farm Security Administration. In 1938, he visited the Shenandoah and Mount Carmel areas. The first set of photos on this page (from the Library of Congress) includes coverage of labor leader John L. Lewis's visit to Mount Carmel. The second set (also from the LOC) is a small tour of the collieries in the area south of Atlas. Click on a thumbnail on the left to enlarge it on the right. Many thanks to Phil Margush, Hugh Jones and Jip Menapace for their contributions to this endeavor.
